About

The webinar, led by the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), in partnership with the United Nations Office of Disaster Risk Reduction (UNDRR), will focus on how local governments can augment financing options to strengthen urban resilience and better protect their citizens and cities’ basic services and critical infrastructure.

Cities consistently identify challenges related to accessing disaster/climate financing as a major impediment to scaled up risk-informed urban development. This resource crunch assumes critical dimensions in cities where budgetary allocations are barely sufficient to maintain ongoing administrative functions and day-to-day services.

The webinar will focus on how cities can tap into more diverse sources of risk reduction funding and how municipalities can more effectively finance and implement resilience initiatives.

The Building Resilient Urban Systems webinar series supports the implementation of the Political Declaration of the Midterm Review of the Sendai Framework, which was adopted by countries at the UN General Assembly in May. MCR2030 is a global partnership that has mobilized 30 national governments and 1,660 local governments committed to strengthening disaster and climate resilience. The initiative is a ‘who’s who’ of partners with unmatched expertise and experience of supporting greater urban resilience.
