Amazon city and future COP-host Belém holds its first training on climate and disaster resilience with UNDRR and ICLEI
More than 70 members of Belém´s Municipal Forum for Climate and technical agents of the City Hall took part in a virtual training on risk management, climate resilience and disaster preparedness organized by UNDRR and the Municipal Department of Environment, with the support of ICLEI.
The workshop kicked off the UNDRR's technical assistance program in Belém under the MCR2030 initiative, through which Belém aims to accelerate the implementation of climate adaptation and disaster preparedness actions in view of the organization of COP30.
The workshop will be followed by a series of activities and in-person workshops to assess Belem's risk management and resilience capacities and draw up a municipal risk reduction plan in line with the update of the city's Master Plan. In particular, UNDRR and ICLEI will join forces to support the Municipality of Belém with the completion of UNDRR´s Disaster Resilience Scorecard for Cities and some of its Addenda in March 2024.
The workshop featured opening declarations by Christiane Ferreira, Belém's Head of the Department of Environment, and Adriana Campelo, Coordinator of the MCR2030 initiative in the Americas and Caribbean for UNDRR, followed by keynote speeches by Clément Da Cruz, Junior MCR2030 Officer for UNDRR, and Isadora Buchala, Regional Resilience Analyst for ICLEI South America.
