Risk awareness exercises show collaboration between municipalities and regional DRR platform.
Joint exercise "Pliva 2022" was organized by the administration of Civil protection of the Central Bosnia Canton at three locations, in the area of the Jajce municipality. The exercise was conducted according to clearly defined scenarios and an operational plan.
Jajce, a municipality with 30 thousand population, recently joined MCR2030 in April 2022. The city is working to strengthen the capacity for preparedness to respond to disasters and other crisis situations with the support of the Central Bosnia Cantonal Civil Protection and Cantonal DRR platform. The exercise, named “Pliva 2022”, took place on September 2022 and aimed at testing various emergency situations scenarios and assess the preparedness of all the city services.
A total number of 70 specialists from the cantonal and municipal departments for civil protection and other rescue services, including the on and under water rescue service, services for protection and rescue from heights, services for Radiological-chemical-biological protection, and the Territorial Fire Department of Jajce.
The exercise was held with the assistance of members of the Jajce Police Station, and the emergency service of Jajce municipality. Participants had the opportunity to use all available material and technical equipment needed for the execution of the assigned tasks. The tasks included exercises such as fire extinguishing, searches for missing persons (in the scenario of the exercise they were hikers), lake searches on and under water, as well as water and food analysis and testing for Covid virus.
Rescue operations cannot be carried out successfully without trained and motivated people, as well as adequate equipment. The exercise showed the commitment and professionalism of all the participants. Activities like this can empower individuals to act in the case of real danger. “Exercises like this can help us train and raise the level of readiness of the civil protection operational forces of the Central Bosnia Canton, inspiring other municipalities in the region to also take action”, said Zenada Causevic, Head of the Civil Protection department in the Canton.
