The Province of Potenza, an MCR2030 Resilience Hub, and the Central Bosnia Canton, the first MCR2030 member in Bosnia & Herzegovina, held a joint session on 5 September in Travnik to share knowledge and experiences on their local-level resilience building journeys and plans going forward.

As an MCR2030 member, the Central Bosnia Canton aims to improve the understanding of disaster risk amongst the population of the canton, and to support its cities and regions to implement local strategies and plans for building resilience in all segments of society.  The Province of Potenza is an established MCR2030 Resilience Hub, recognized for their established track record in disaster risk reduction and resilience and commitment to support and mentor other MCR2030 cities and municipalities.

During the session, the Province of Potenza and the Central Bosnia Canton agreed on taking forward activities as reflected under their Memorandum of Understanding signed in February 2023, through strengthened collaboration between regional institutions, and support to the harmonizing  the Central Bosnia Canton’s legislation with the EU acquis in the field of disaster risk reduction. The partners also agreed to establish cooperation between local communities through the organization of fairs and festivals in the fields of economy, culture and sports, with an emphasis on disaster risk reduction, as well as summer and winter camps for training civil protection and rescue workers.

Along with the Government of the Central Bosnia Canton, the municipalities of Travnik, Vitez, Kiseljak, Jajce and Busovača have also joined the MCR2030 network, with plans to include further municipalities from the region going forward.
