Course Description

One of the key gaps of local governments in accessing financial resources for implementation of disaster and climate resilience actions is the lack of capacity in preparing bankable projects.  This one-hour training aims to provide foundational knowledge on project preparation. It will include an introduction on project preparation, project stages and the importance of integrating climate and disaster issues into project preparation. It will also highlight case studies and tools available, particularly from the Cities Climate Finance Leadership Alliances and its members, to support cities towards enhancing project preparation capacity.

The training is open to local government officials and relevant stakeholders, especially those responsible for disaster and climate actions and seeking next steps towards accessing finance for implementation.

About Cities Climate Finance Leadership Alliance (CCFLA)

CCFLA is a multi-level and multi-stakeholder coalition aimed at closing the investment gap for urban subnational climate projects and infrastructure worldwide, launched at the United Nations SecretaryGeneral’s Climate Summit in September 2014 and renewed at the United Nations SecretaryGeneral’s Climate Summit in September 2019. The Alliance provides a platform to convene and exchange knowledge among all relevant actors dedicated to urban development, climate action, and/or financing. The more than 55 Alliance members include public and private finance institutions, governments, international organizations, NGOs, research groups, and networks that represent most of the world’s largest cities. The Alliance is served by the Climate Policy Initiative (CPI) as Secretariat.

About the Making Cities Resilient 2030 (MCR2030)

Making Cities Resilient 2030 (MCR2030) is a unique cross-stakeholder initiative for improving local resilience through advocacy, sharing knowledge and experiences, establishing mutually reinforcing city-to-city learning networks, injecting technical expertise, connecting multiple layers of government and building partnerships.

Through delivering a clear 3-stage roadmap to urban resilience, providing tools, access to knowledge, monitoring and reporting tools. MCR2030 will support cities on their journey to reduce risk and build resilience.

MCR2030 aims to ensure cities become inclusive, safe, resilient and sustainable by 2030, contributing directly to the achievement of Sustainable Development Goal 11 (SDG11) “Make cities and human settlements inclusive, safe, resilient and sustainable”, and other global frameworks including the Sendai Framework for Disaster Risk Reduction, the Paris Agreement and the New Urban Agenda.
