Update

Local governments play an essential role in disaster risk reduction and building resilience. At UNDRR’s 2022 Global Platform, the Local Leaders Forum opened a productive discussion on important issues around disaster resilience at city and district level.

NALAS joined MCR2030

Resilient cities care for their most at risk population and provide inclusive platforms for their inhabitants to take ownership and actively plan for preparedness and response to disasters.

Nur-Sultan in collaboration with the United Nations Office for Disaster Risk Reduction (UNDRR), and with the financial support of the European Union, convened a two-day workshop to support the development of the city’s resilience strategy.

After ramping up climate change adaptation measures, increasing capacity building and engaging local communities, the Canton joined the Making Cities Resilient 2030 (MCR2030) initiative in March 2021.

The Bangladeshi municipality of Pangsha has become the 1,000th member of MCR2030, a global partnership of local governments committed to strengthening their disaster resilience.

This side event will took place on 4 April 2022 and examined how cities are building resilience to the impacts of COVID-19, especially socio-economic impacts, as well as climate change. It was part of the Forum of Mayors organized by UNECE.
